It's Ice Cream Sunday!

Today is National Ice Cream Day! In 1984, President Ronald Reagan proclaimed that the third Sunday in July would be deemed as National Ice Cream Day and that the entire month of July would be considered National Ice Cream month in celebration of this delectable sweet treat!

Ice cream is a frozen dessert that is typically made from dairy products, such as milk and cream, combined with fruits or other ingredients. Although this fun holiday is celebrated in the United States, people all around the world enjoy this delicious refreshment. Terms like frozen custard, frozen yogurt, sorbet and gelato are used throughout the world to distinguish between the different varieties and styles. Alternatives made from soy milk, rice milk and goat milk are available to those who are unable to tolerate traditional ice cream due to lactose intolerance or allergy to dairy protein. And boy oh boy! are those alternatives great. Currently I am loving a non-dairy version in variety of flavors by Luna & Larry's Coconut Bliss made with coconut milk! Wowsa! It is great.

Whatever your preference—a cone, a cup, a shake or a sundae; traditional or alternative ice cream, be sure to enjoy this sweet indulgence today in celebration of this festive holiday! Cheers!
